Foundation Platform Vliegveld Laarbruch
Through PLATFORM
VLIEGVELD LAARBRUCH, citizens and organizations from within and around the municipality of Bergen (Lb), are fighting the noise and environmental
strain caused by Laarbruch airport. Till mid 1999, Laarbruch will
be a military airbase, where the RAF stations Harriers. After the departure of the British, the
neighbourhood will not be left in peace, if the plans for a new
"Airport Niederrhein" at Laarbruch go ahead. The German
governmentintends to transform Laarbruch into a civil Airport,
with business flights, charter and freight services. An
application has been submitted for a general licence, for 7 days
a week, 24 hours a day. The underlying motive is the generation
of new jobs. "Platform Vliegveld Laarbruch" argues that:

An airport is a bad development, which causes a lot of annoyance, inappropriate to a rural environment which emphasises on nature and recreation,
Alternative
investments are possible at Laarbruch, which would suit
this environment much better..
This web site will
keep you informed about the advantages and disadvantages of
several plans that are being developed.
